Description

:star: I am so incredibly happy to have won this guy. Thank you so much to everyone!

"In Norse mythology, Sköll (Old Norse: "Treachery") is a wolf that chases the horses Árvakr and Alsviðr, that drag the chariot which contains the sun (Sól) through the sky every day, trying to eat her. Sköll has a brother, Hati, who chases Máni, the moon. At Ragnarök, both Sköll and Hati will succeed in their quests..." - Norse myth of the end of the world.

Beware the story at then end. It's a bit sad.

:new: Okay, so after a looootttt of hesitation, I decided to completely re-do the art part of this bid, because what I had before didn't feel "action-y" enough for me, and I wanted to make it look better. So voila, Skoll running through Blackwood under a full moon! I imagine that in this, he's running back to Glenmore to search for Lira. *Ahem* Anyways, I hope you guys like the updated version. :)
You can also see his accessories and "pet wolf" better in this.

:bulletgreen:Herd Information:bulletgreen:

Herd: Blackwood
Herd Position: Herd Member/Wanderer

:bulletgreen:Details:bulletgreen:

Personality: Skoll's mood can change in the blink of an eye; he can go from calm and quiet to a blind rage right before your eyes with barely any warning. He holds grudges with everything he has and will never forget anyone who has wronged him. He is dedicated to learning Black Magic and has devoted his life to becoming a powerful Necromancer and also tries his hardest to please Uir so that she will one day allow him to see his mother and son again. Skoll's closest friend is his half-brother, Hati, and he would protect him with his life. True to Uir's teachings, Skoll has a lot of respect for does and his family, and will do anything to aid his fellow Blackwoods when they need it.
Skoll is emotionally unstable and prefers to keep to himself if he can, but does wander aimlessly, lost in his thoughts and troubled past. But if you can break past the mental barriers and moody tempers and get Skoll to care for you, he will not let you down. He is completely loyal and devoted to the ones he truly cares about and would never harm them. He also remembers all the favors others do for him, and pays them back in equal whenever he gets the chance.
Skoll also uses his actions to convey his emotions and thoughts more than he uses words. He believes that his intentions can be best conveyed through actions, and that speaking about them sometimes doesn't do any good. He is very intelligent and though there are times when it seems he doesn't know what he's doing, he always has something planned out. He tries to stay ahead of his opponent in battle, and wears a cold "mask" so that his thoughts and weaknesses are not revealed.

Quirks:
- Before Skoll ever participates in a large fight, he rolls around in dirt or mud, covering his coat in it.
- When Skoll first grows his antlers back each year, he sharpens them on rocks and trees
- When Skoll loses his antlers, he buries them and thanks Uir for giving them to him
- Skoll's favorite battle move is to run and leap at his opponent, even though it exposes himself to antlers, because he has so much force behind his attack, it is hard for his opponent to remain balanced
- When Skoll has great respect for someone, he holds his tail curled around his back leg
- When Skoll feels superior to someone or they make  him angry, he holds his tail up and curled around, and speaks to them with his head tilted to the side and angled down so that he has to look up at them

Favorite Places:
- Skoll grew up mostly around Whitepeak and then Widow's Hollow when Varr took him in. They both hold a special place in his heart as well as lots of memories
- After Skoll met Lira, he grew attached to the shore of Blackfoot Sound, as he often went there with her during the summer after Fenrir was born to play on the beach. He mainly went there at sunset or sunrise to avoid Glenmore soldiers and  guards
- Skoll likes to visit Sky Lake during the Fall, when it reflects all the fiery colors of the trees

Favorite Plants:
- Rosemary- After his mother died and before he was healed, Skoll was given Rosemary each night by Varr so that he could sleep peacefully
- Chamomille- Skoll likes how it allows him to sleep quickly and deeply.
- Arownettle- Varr gave Skoll the flowers of this plant to help him heal after he was attacked; if Skoll ever gets sick with fever, he uses this
- Snowberries- Skoll eats Snowberries during the harsh winters at Blackwood. They are one of his favorite foods
- Bloodnettle- when Skoll was younger, he often ate this plant for its  hallucinations. Now that he's older, he doesn't enjoy it as much, but will sometimes do it for fun if the right time calls for it

History: (Get ready, it's a doozy...) Anita was Gollun's sworn mate; they were promised to each other at birth. Gollun's parents bribed Anita's family with many goods and swore their alliance to them for generations to come, though Gollun was not pure-blooded Blackwood. His mother was a run away Silverthorne doe who fled her herd after a cave lion killed her family, and Gollun's father took her in and made her his mate.

Anita and Gollun were both powerful fawnlings, Gollun in his strength and intelligence, and Anita in her knowledge of Necromancy. Anita had spent a few years when she was of age to learn magic away from her family, under the supervision of her mentor, a Blackwood stag named Varr. Varr was a very powerful Necromancer and also knew a lot of Possession and Herb Lore and taught Anita everything he knew. When she was 12 years old, she returned to her family and to her mate, Gollun. Anita and Gollun planned to have many children together. During that rut, Gollun courted her many times, but Anita had a very big secret. She slipped away some nights under the cover of darkness to visit Varr in secret. Her heart truly belonged to him, though no one could know of her betrayal of her family and her promised mate lest she be banished and shamed, or worse. The two managed to keep their meetings under wraps and no one was the wiser.

The following Spring, Anita gave birth to a son and was shocked to find that he was identical to Varr. Gollun did not know the true bloodlines of his "son" though, and accepted him without doubts or hesitation. For several weeks, Anita tried her hardest to resist returning to Varr and revealing to him that he had a son, but she was too weak and was desperate to see him again. She slipped away again, this time taking Skoll with her. Varr was surprised to hear the truth, but not displeased. He swore to Anita that he would protect both of them always. Months passed, and Anita continued to see Varr every once and a while, often taking Skoll along too so he could get to know his real father. Sometimes, however, she left him in the care of another Blackwood doe who had a daughter Skoll's age named Freyja. Freyja had a doeling crush on Skoll and swore to be his mate one day, though Skoll didn't take it seriously. The two played together and were good friends.

After a while, Gollun began to notice that Anita was becoming distant and anxious, and was often gone for the entire night to some unknown place. He began to grow suspicious but Anita revealed nothing to him, and Skoll would not speak either. So he followed her from the shadows when she tried to vanish one night during the peak of Fall.

He was shocked and enraged to discover his mate's disloyalty. He couldn't attack in front of Varr, however, because the stag was older and trained in Black Magic and Gollun knew he was no match. So he returned home without Anita and waited for the arrival of his mate.

She returned after midnight, and he confronted her immediately. An argument ensued but with no real harm done; Anita swore that she would stop seeing Varr and would be the best mate she could possibly be, and she would stop practicing her Black Magic. So Gollun let her betrayals go without seeking revenge.

Gollun and Anita had a true son that Spring, named Draak. Skoll was happy to have a little brother, but it wasn't without negative side effects. With Draak being the newest member of the family, he had the spot light and Skoll was nudged to the side. Skoll was jealous, but could do nothing. He was not old enough yet to be on his own. Anita and Gollun were happy with their lives... for a little while.

Anita, try as hard as she could, could not stay away from Varr. When Draak was only a year old, she went back to Varr in secret. This sparked their love for each other once more, and she picked up her old habits of sneaking around behind Gollun's back. That Spring, Anita had another son; her and Varr's second son. She named him Hati and he looked just like her, but Gollun was not convinced that he was the father. He hadn't caught Anita sneaking around or lying, but there was a growing feeling in the back of his mind that was driving him mad. Again, he followed Anita in the dead of night.

When he discovered that she was again visiting Varr and that Hati was not his son either, Gollun lost it. When Anita came back home at sunrise the next morning, Gollun attacked her without hesitation. Since she hadn't practiced her magic in so long, it was not much use to her. Skoll, Draak, and Hati were all too young to defend their mother, and so they could only watch as Gollun killed Anita. Skoll forced his younger brothers to stand behind him, bracing himself for the attack from his stepfather he was sure would come. Gollun, blind with rage, cut Anita's head from her body so that she would never be revived and as a show of disrespect. He then turned on Skoll, chasing him until the two came to a ragged cliff that overlooked a dry ravine. He pushed Skoll from the cliff, watched as he tumbled to his death, and then Gollun returned for his true son. He and Draak fled Blackwood to escape the uproar that was sure to come.

Nearly two days later, Skoll was found by Varr and Hati. Hati had ran to his father for help just after Skoll had been chased off by Gollun. Skoll was badly injured from the fall; he suffered a massive blow to the head, two broken ribs, and deep gashes in his stomach. He lived, but the trauma from his mother's death and his fall was evident. He became cold and distant and seemed to prefer to be alone. Varr did his best to raise his two sons, but he too was affected by Anita's death. He was heartbroken and hadn't the slightest clue of how to raise two fawns, but he tried anyways. During the time with their father, Skoll and Hati grew very close. Skoll taught Hati how to fight and cared for him with all his heart, despite not being able to show his affection very well. Without his mother and with an inexperienced father, he took on the responsibility of teaching Hati. Meanwhile, Skoll harbored hatred in his heart and swore on Anita's  grave that he would avenge her death some day.

When Skoll was of age, he asked Varr to be his mentor just as he had done for his mother. Varr reluctantly agreed. Skoll had inherited their Necromancy, and asked to learn Possession as well just as Anita had. He put all of his focus into learning the features of Black Magic, planning on using it to punish his stepfather. He wanted to haunt him for the rest of his life.

After Skoll had learned a large amount of Necromancy and was able to survive on his own, he left Hati and Varr. He wandered for a couple weeks, half in search of Gollun, half in meaningless travel. During this time he fought other stags, and the next Winter, he attempted a raid on Glenmore and was partly victorious. He met a Glenmore doe named Lira and was immediately captivated by her. She didn't want to leave Glenmore, however, and would not come away with him, so they had secret meetings just as Anita and Varr had once had. The next Spring, Lira and Skoll had a son, who they named Fenrir. For a time, Skoll's hatred and heartache was forgotten and he focused solely on helping raise his son.

And then Skoll was reunited with his half-brother, Draak.

During the early Winter of the Year 755, Draak and Skoll came face-to-face again. Draak was searching for a Glenmore doe, and came across Lira and Fenrir in a small sunlit glade, waiting for Skoll to arrive. Draak attempted to claim Lira for himself, and Skoll happened to be very close. In his effort to attack, he discovered that Draak had a companion with him that served as a body guard while he was busy: an albino wolf. He wasn't sure how Draak came to befriend such a creature or how they maintained their relationship, but he didn't stop to question it. The wolf was after Fenrir and wouldn't allow Skoll to get close. Skoll attacked and killed the wolf, skinning him into a pelt to show Draak that he was superior and would not tolerate his actions. Draak fled, but was outraged by Skoll's disrespect. He had been raised by Gollun to hate Skoll and Hati for Anita's betrayal; he was not the same fawn that Skoll had once known. Life with the bitter Gollun had badly corrupted him.

For a short time, Lira, Fenrir, and Skoll were left alone and in peace.

Then Draak returned in the dead of night to seek revenge for the wolf's slaughter and to break Skoll. He had waited and watched and chose a night when Skoll was back at home in Blackwood. He attacked with all his might, and killed Fenrir in cold blood. Just as Gollun had done, Draak beheaded Fenrir so his spirit would never again have access to his body so he would not be revived.

When Skoll learned of his son's death, he became overwhelmed with fury. It drove him mad to the point where he would go days without sleeping, talked to himself, begged Uir for help and guidance, destroyed everything he touched. He even lashed out at Lira, who gave up her love for Skoll in her heartache and returned to her family. For weeks, Skoll hid himself away deep in the forest, practicing his Necromancy, becoming stronger, preparing to finally have revenge for both his mother's and his son's unfair death.

He went in search of his father and Draak, and found them on the border of Blackwood in a thick hollow during the winter. Skoll attempted to battle them, but wasn't much of a match against the two of them. So Skoll retreated and called upon the help of Hati, who he had kept in touch with every now and again since he had left. Varr was old by now and was no use in the fight, but Hati agreed all too willingly to help after hearing Skoll's story. He too was ready to pay back his mother's death.

The two brothers attacked and were victorious in killing the old Gollun, who was now past his prime. In a blind rage, Skoll ripped Gollun limb from limb and then spread his body parts all over Blackwood and whispered a curse so that Gollun would never be united with the Earth Mother, Uir, and so she would never be pleased with him for going against her teachings by killing his mate and for Draak's murder of Fenrir. He also cut off Gollun's beard and tied it to a leather band around his neck. The first of his collection.

Draak escaped with many injuries, but was not killed.

Nowadays, Skoll prefers to keep to himself, battling his demons every single day. His revenge has not satisfied his anger, and he fights to stay sane. He often summons his son's ghost, spending time with him the way he was never able to while he was alive. Doing this has added to his mental instability, as he is filled with regret and heartache for his son. The only one who seems to be able to keep him calm is Hati, and Skoll treasures his half-brother with his entire being.

:bulletgreen:Story from right after their mother's death:bulletgreen:

Winter, Year 750 of the New Age
Widow’s Hollow, Blackwood

Skoll

It hurt to breathe, it hurt to walk, it even hurt not to do anything at all. Each time his chest rose to fill his lungs, his ribs screamed in protest, and it was everything Skoll could do to not scream with them.

”Are you okay..?” The voice that floated up out of the darkness was small and frail, as weak as Skoll felt.

Skoll turned his head to peer into the shadows behind him, wincing at the awkward angle. ”Yes, little brother, I’m fine. Just sore, is all,” he replied, putting as much strength into his voice as he could muster. He knew he needed to be the support for Hati now. His little brother was so young, so innocent, so lost in this dark, cruel world.

There was a long moment of silence. The forest was as quiet as the ravine had been; ghostly, even. No crickets sang in the tall grass, and no night owls called softly from their perch among the trees. It sent a light shiver down Skoll’s spine, which made him grit his teeth against the pain.

Then, ”Do you think she knows we made it?”

Skoll’s frame drooped suddenly. He felt the weight of his loss, and Hati’s as well, in every cell in his body. It was weighing him down, crushing him, pulling the air from his lungs. He could feel Hati’s soul crying out for comfort, even if he couldn’t see the tears that were streaming down his face. He could hear the brokenness in his voice, which was enough.

Skoll took as deep a breath as his  body would allow, and struggled to his feet. He was overwhelmed with white hot pain that punched holes in his sides, but he fought through it. Hati needed him now, more than he felt he needed to rest. His knees trembled and he very nearly collapsed.

”What are you doing? You need to lay down!” Hati’s voice rose in alarm, and Skoll heard the leaves rustle as Hati moved to help him. He felt his little brother’s nose against his shoulder, and then felt his warmth as he moved to lean against his side, holding him up.

”It’s alright,” Skoll gasped. He felt Hati’s hesitation, and then there was no more pressure against his side as his little brother fell back to the ground in a pile of tiny bones and soft, downy fur. Skoll joined him only a second later, curling as close to him as he could manage without the pain. He wrapped his tail around Hati just as their mother used to. He felt Hati’s body begin to shake with sobs, and then heard sniffling. Skoll frowned. He knew how the little guy felt, but Hati had it a lot worse. He was still so young. He needed his mother.

”She is with Uir now,” Skoll did his best to comfort Hati, but he felt a great unending emptiness as well, and it was hard to cover that up with his voice. ”Don’t worry. We’ll see her again. I promise.” Hati’s only reply was a weak nod.

Skoll sighed into his little brother’s short, fluffy mane. It hurt to let out his breath so deeply, but nothing could be done about it. The darkness of the forest stretched on and on. For a brief moment, Skoll wondered if the sudden darkness that had enveloped them would ever let them go. He doubted it.

A soft thump from somewhere deep in the shadows caught his attention and made his skin crawl. A spasm of fear shot through him, and vision flashed in front of his eyes: Gollun, soaked in his mother’s blood, nostrils flaring, eyes blind with fury, rising up from the black shadows to finish what he had started. Skoll couldn’t breathe. His mind was numb with terror. He couldn’t protect them now.

”Here… Foxglove and Arrownettle. They will help with the pain.” A familiar, deep voice reached his ears and it was all Skoll could do not to break down and cry with relief.

His father stepped closer, careful not to jostle his injured son. He bent down his great head and lay a small bundle of leaves with tiny white flowers before him. ”This will help ease the pain. It doesn’t taste very good, but…” His voice trailed off.

After a moment, Skoll looked up, but his father’s shape was swallowed by the night. He knew his closeness only by his musky scent and the warmth radiating from him. ”Thank you… But is there anything you can give Hati? He needs to sleep,” he asked. He felt his father’s soft, sad smile.

”Of course. I’ll return with Chamomille. For now, you should rest.” He moved away and soon his footsteps were lost to the depth of the wood.

Skoll nuzzled Hati closely, felt the dampness of his brother’s face from countless tears.

Silence moved in to fill the small space that surrounded the two young fawnlings. After nearly half an hour, Skoll felt Hati’s breathing change to the deep breaths of sleep.

Then, in a quiet voice warped by sleep, ”I love you, Skoll.”

IT'S SO INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL!!!

I saw the picture earlier, but didn't have time to read the story.

Read the story... :iconcryforeverplz:

I so hope you win, because that's what this character is full of...win. :D WIN

Also, good move to redo the picture, I've noticed a lot of the Blackwood bids are actually difficult to see against their backgrounds.  This was a nice remake!  :)
